Find your inner power and join us in making a difference in the lives of women and girls
OUR MISSION: Soroptimist is a global volunteer organization that provides women and girls with access to the education and training they need to achieve economic empowerment.
OUR VISION: Women and girls have the resources and opportunities to reach their full potential and live their dreams.
Since the founding of the first Soroptimist club in Oakland, California, in 1921, Soroptimist International (SI) has sought to bring about change in the lives of women and girls worldwide. Through its global network of five Federations and its dedicated volunteer membership of around 65,000 in 118 countries, SI is driven by its mission to empower women and girls by providing educational opportunities.
LIVE YOUR DREAM AWARD
The Live Your Dream Award is a unique education award for women who provide the primary financial support for their families. The Live Your Dream Award gives women the resources they need to improve their education, skills and employment prospects. A candidate must be the primary financial support for her family and be working toward a college / technical degree and have financial need to be eligible for this award.
Awards recipients may use the cash award to offset any costs associated with their efforts to attain higher education, such as books, childcare, tuition and transportation.
VIRGINIA WAGNER EDUCATIONAL AWARD
The Virginia Wagner Educational Award honors a woman who is enrolled in a university degree program (i.e., bachelor, master or doctorate), shows effort toward scholarship, has done volunteer work in the community and/or school, and has financial need. She does not need to be the primary financial support for her family.
RUBY AWARD
The Ruby Award is given to women helping women and recognizing them for having significantly improved the lives of women and/or girls.
MADELINE COLAVITO CONTINUING EDUCATION AWARD
The Madeline Colavito Continuing Education Award offers additional financial support to our award recipients as they pursue their educational objectives.
PROGRAMS
Dream It, Be It: Career Support for Girls. This program gives girls the tools they need to achieve their education and career goals, empowering them to break cycles of poverty, violence, and abuse.
The Mentoring for Success Program aims to help our club's award recipients achieve their educational and career objectives. Award recipients are paired with a Soroptimist member who acts as a mentor, offering emotional and instrumental support, as well as opportunities for networking.
Human Trafficking Awareness
Raising awareness about human trafficking has been a significant focus of Soroptimist International of Grosse Pointe (SIGP). We are actively engaged in educating our communities with the goal of terminating this multi-billion-dollar criminal industry.

Soroptimist was coined from the Latin soror, meaning sister, and optimus, meaning best. Soroptimist is perhaps best interpreted as being “best for women.”
